Part of my creative practice uses objects that other people hold on to that make them sad or unhappy-and create work based on their experiences. The objects I’m working with right now; camera film, prints, journal pages, are from a deeply challenging, traumatic and life changing time in a person’s life.
I’m working on crafting rotted organs. An autopsy.
I cut the film into cord, crocheted into misshapen organs, holes inside. I built multiple yarn organs, using handspun wool. I find slubby yarn with its variations in thickness in a single ply works best for this kind of project. Organic looking, oh yes.
The organs were crocheted, dyed with logwood, and beaded. pustules and polps emerging to the surface. More to come on this project.
